Letter from the Principal

UrigWelcome to the 2016-2017 school year! We welcome everyone back to St. Mary School along with our new families. We are glad you are here!

Since 1859 with parish support, St. Mary School has been providing an excellent Catholic education not only to the children of Elyria but children from all over Lorain County. All students, regardless of race, religion or economic situation, are welcome to become part of our school family.

Upon entering St. Mary School one experiences a Christ-centered environment. Our Catholic faith plays an integral part in daily coursework and activities. We follow the current state standards as well as educational standards set forth by the Diocese of Cleveland. In addition to a strong educational foundation, St. Mary School offers many opportunities for student enrichment through clubs, sports, and an after-school Educational Enhancement Program. A preschool is available to our youngest students. The Extended Day Program provides childcare for working parents.

While students are held to higher standards, a dedicated, experienced staff works to meet the needs of every child and the expectations of every parent. Our teachers continually participate in professional development covering the best educational practices. The latest technology enhances our teachers’ ability to shape the 21st century learners. Junior High students are assigned individual Chromebooks while iPads and computer lab are available to the younger students. Recently a Makerspace was established in the computer lab to enhance all students’ abilities to create, invent and learn.

St. Mary School has provided exceptional education opportunities to children for 157 years. May God bless us with a successful school year as we continue to grow in knowledge, faith and service. We welcome you to visit our school to see for yourself!

Sincerely,

Ms. Sharon Urig, Principal
