Do you know what an owl pellet is? The sixth graders can tell you what they are. They were taking them apart in science class. When owls eat they swallow their food whole. The parts of their food like fur, teeth, claws, and bones that cannot be digested form into a ball in their gizzard. They eventually regurgitate this ball which is called a pellet. Scientists study these pellets to learn about what kinds of food owls eat. The sixth graders learned about this natural process and what scientists can learn about studying these owl pellets.
